Santa does not say Ha ha ha! He says Ho! Ho! Ho! Always has, always will. Many of you may have heard that down under in Australia, a Santa school was trying to mandate that their new Santa students replace the traditional, time tested HO HO HO with HA HA HA. Why? Because some women, they reasoned,
might be offended and children
may be frightened by a hearty HO HO HO! See the text of the full story
here.
Are they serious? Were any of us scared by a Ho Ho Ho as children? Maybe bad breath but not a HO HO HO! Are we now to rewrite Miracle on 34th Street because our children might mistake it for Nightmare on Elm Street? And what about all of us green thumbs? Do we have rename some of garden tools for fear of scaring children or offending? “Honey, would you mind grabbing my long handled implement with a thin blade used to break the surface of the ground?” Do we have to say that instead of the word “hoe”? And what of Hostess? I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid I always opted for Twinkies because Ho Hos scared the heck out of me and offended my sister.
We at MakeBeliever say nonsense! Tradition is a good thing and Christmas and the Christmas Spirit are perhaps the best of all Traditions. Santa is the symbol of it all. We can assure you that our Santa will always greet you with a hearty HO HO HO! Changing it to Ha Ha HA? No way! Or should I say Bah Humbug!
